CTEC New Vision Education Students Complete Successful School Year

The CTEC New Vision Education class recently held a showcase of their final projects, a culmination of a year-long study of the field of education. They created an original school, and in doing so drew upon their gained knowledge of theories and trends in education as well as their 100 hours of practical experience in Orange County schools.
During the course of the school year, New Vision Education students take field trips to a variety of educational settings in and around Orange County, including the Storm King School in Cornwall-on-Hudson, the Homestead School in Glen Spey, and the Charter School for Autism and Hunter College High School in Manhattan. They also observe and participate in classrooms and guidance/administrative offices in the Florida, Goshen, Minisink Valley, Monroe-Woodbury, Valley Central, Tuxedo, Washingtonville, Warwick Valley, Port Jervis, and Middletown school districts. The New Vision students work one-on-one with elementary and middle school students, assist teachers with planning and delivering lessons, and/or observe seasoned professionals in dealing with the challenges of education in today’s public schools.
Such real-life, hands-on experiences are an integral part of the New Vision program, which seeks to expose high school seniors to a particular career field as part of a yearlong course that includes related college courses as well. The BOCES New Vision program offers tuition-free college credits and workplace shadowing experiences to students in one of four career exploration programs: Education, Engineering, Law/Government, or Medical. It is available to all high school seniors in the Orange-Ulster BOCES component school districts who meet GPA and test score requirements and successfully complete the application and interview process.
