Following two consecutive weekends of trials between Mock Trial teams from local school districts, the teams from Goshen HS and James I. O'Neill HS scored the highest number of points to face each other in the Orange County Mock Trial Finals held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in the Town of Goshen Courthouse.  James I. O'Neill High School's team represented the defense and the team from Goshen High School represented the plaintiff in this year’s hypothetical case "Robin Berkman v. County of Dover."  The Honorable Victoria B. Campbell, Orange County Family Court Judge, presided over the trial.

After well-argued cases presented by both sides, Goshen was awarded the verdict as well as the win. Judge Campbell was highly complimentary of both teams and their performances as attorneys and witnesses. Both teams were awarded perfect scores for professionalism, and Judge Campbell noted all participants conducted themselves with decorum and respect for each other in keeping with a courtroom atmosphere.

Goshen will move on to the Mock Trial Regionals on April 22 hosted by Westchester County. Mock Trial teams from Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester counties will compete at Pace University Law in White Plains.

Goshen team members include: Nazya Ahmed, Rachel Blustein, Arrington Brendle, Kareena Chaabra, Giannamarie Diaz, Caitlin Hough, Aleena Jacob, Jay Jung, Shahnoor Khan, Olivia Klugman, Zachary Konstantindis, Maggie Larsen, James Lindeman, Ariana Lopez, Sarah Madigan, Anya Malhotra, Dom Pasquini, Nina Pasquini, Ethan Rodriguez, Sofia Saul, Robby Siracuse and Julia Thornton; Teacher Coach: Robert Karchawer, Teacher Consultant: Cynthia Rosenzweig, Attorney Coach: Mark Stern, Legal Consultant: Megan Farrell and Attorney Consultant: Lynn Tabbott.

The Orange County Mock Trials is one of the many extracurricular enrichment programs for districts coordinated by the OU BOCES Division of Instructional Support. Nancy Faddis-DeCerbo coordinates the program on behalf of Orange-Ulster BOCES. The Orange County Bar Association, under the leadership of the Honorable Craig Brown, Orange County Court Judge, and the Honorable Kimberly Van Haaster, Town of Goshen Justice, plays an integral role in the success of the Mock Trial program by providing judges to hear the cases presented by the students, as well as attorney-coaches for the teams.
