Orange Ulster BOCES CTE is proud to announce that the Telecommunications and Wireless Specialist program has certified twenty new fiber optic technicians.  These students worked diligently to complete the 40-hour certification. They were trained in fiber optic systems theory, construction, splicing and trouble shooting.  All twenty students are seniors, ready and willing to get to work upon the graduation in June.

Occupational Network Online calls this career path a “Bright Outlook” and a “Green New and Emerging” occupation. The certification will serve as a springboard to vault the certified student into college, the military, or a career. Medium wages for 2016 were $29.96 hourly or $62,330 per year.  In 2014, Photonics Technicians made up 70,000 employees in the United States.

Along with fiber optic systems, CTE at Orange Ulster BOCES also offer certifications in copper-based systems and wireless systems.
