The School Library System promotes student achievement by providing the school library media centers of 91 public and 21 private schools in Orange and Ulster counties with:
- Professional development for library and teaching staff.
- Development and maintenance of an automated Union Catalog.
- Resource sharing among schools and other libraries through interlibrary loan via SEAL and OCLC.
- Building and sharing specialized collections through Cooperative Collection Development.
- Coordination of access to commercial online databases and those available at no cost through NOVEL.
- Dissemination of current information concerning libraries and
literacy to schools.
- Access to an instructional Media Library.
- Events to promote literacy such as the Great New York ReadAloud and the Orange County Spelling Contest.
- Puppet collection and related books, professional materials, Accu-cut dies and portable machines for loan.
