NOVEL is New York's first statewide online virtual library. NOVEL is a collection of electronic databases that provide access from library, home, school, or office to thousands of full-text national and international newspapers and magazines, health and medical resources, business collections, Spanish language materials, and age-appropriate materials for youngsters.
New York State residents can currently access NOVEL via their local public library, academic library or school library. New Yorkers can also access NOVEL using a borrower's card from the New York State Library (find out how to obtain a borrower's card), or via New York State Photo Driver License or Non-Driver ID card.

EBSCO databases from NOVEL and funded by a LSTA grant to the New York State Library. Includes:
- MasterFILE Select - journals, reference books and pamphlets relating to a broad range of topics.
- Primary Search via Searchasaurus – reference materials for elementary to middle school users
- Topic Search – a full text resource exploring social, political and economic issues, for middle school users and above.
- General Science Collection – information on all scientific topics and full-text for over 60 of the most popular science publications.

Gale Databases from NOVEL and funded through LSTA funds:
- Health and Wellness Resource Center and Alternative Health – current health information for professionals and consumers.
- Business & Company Resource Center – a variety of global business information.
- InfoTrac Junior Edition – for middle and junior high schools
- The Twayne’s Author Series - World, English, and US Authors
- Informe! Revistas en Espanol - over 40 full-text Spanish-language and bilingual magazines, reports and maps.
- Custom Newspapers – including world and several New York State newspapers, such as full text of the NY Times.
- National Newspaper Index
- Gale Virtual Reference Library – Online reference titles focusing
on biography, business, environment, history, law, literature, medicine,
and science. Provided by NOVEL, SENYLRC, and the O-U BOCES School Library
System.
