Panel of students at Media Day event
  • Career & Technical Education

Orange-Ulster BOCES Career & Technical Education (CTE) students recently showcased their technical programs and skills for members of the press, local dignitaries and community during an event held at the OU BOCES Gibson Road location. The event was held in support of CTE Month, a public awareness campaign that takes place each February to celebrate the value of CTE programs across the country.

OU BOCES offers 37 CTE programs which give students the opportunity to graduate from high school with technical experience, professional skills, national industry certifications, and college credit in a wide variety of high-demand occupations.

To kick off the Media Day event, students displayed projects showcasing their best work in the lobby of the CTE building. Culinary students, under the direction of their instructors, prepared and served a delicious breakfast. Faculty members and their students shared their programs’ experiences participating in trade-related events and competitions, including the Auto Technology students, CISCO CCNA/Computer Networking students, as well as instructors from the Education and Culinary academies.

The highlight of the morning was a presentation by a panel of students who shared their CTE stories as well as their future plans. The panel included Gianna Nazzaro (Pine Bush HS), Micahla Marner (Pine Bush HS), Tyler Markowitz (Warwick Valley HS), Danielle Lugo (Pine Bush HS), Marissa Lombardi (Goshen HS), Chrislyn Nunez-Donald (Minisink Valley HS), and Ashley Bonner (Minisink Valley HS).
