40 Orange-Ulster BOCES Career and Technical Education students competed at the SkillsUSA New York alongside 500 students in Area 4 Regional competition. 19 students received a gold, silver or bronze medal in their area of expertise. The SkillsUSA competition is a prestigious technical and leadership contest where career and technical education students demonstrate their expertise in various trade, technical, and leadership fields nationwide.

"I couldn't be more proud of our students for their contributions, dedication, and efforts throughout the competition,” Principal Eugene Hewitt said. “They represented themselves, their programs, and Orange-Ulster BOCES in the finest light. They should be extremely proud of themselves, as we all are of them."

"This is a proud moment for our students, their families, and our organization,” Director Sara Puccio shared.  “Competing at this level and advancing to the state competition is the kind of experience that has certainly created a lasting memory for all of our competitors. Our students’ pride in their craft speaks to who they are as future professionals. Their success is a reflection of their hard work and professionalism."

The New York State competition is scheduled for April 22-24 at the Syracuse State Fairground.

“The opportunity to not only be a part of SkillsUSA, but participate in the Area 4 Competition has been an amazing experience for not only me but all of my fellow competitors. Being able to compete and place third has been so rewarding for my team and I. I would recommend this to everybody determined and passionate in their field.”

- Mason Pixley, 3rd Place, Digital Cinema, Washingtonville

“It was an incredible privilege to be able to compete in SkillsUSA. Going in I had no clue what to expect and I came out with a fun experience with new friends and new knowledge about my competition. I wish everybody could participate in something as fun as this. I am thankful to my teachers, Mr. Moore, and Mr. Korn, for everything I have learned and excited to continue progressing at SkillsUSA New York State Competition!”

- Craig Brown, 1st Place, Carpentry 1, Washingtonville

“Through the Skills USA competition I challenged myself, learned new skills, and grew more confident in my abilities. ”
