Orange-Ulster BOCES (OUB) Career and Technical Education students Angelina Vargas (S.S. Seward Institute) and Kayla Flores (Warwick Valley High School), both of the Education Academy, attended the SkillsUSA Washington DC Leadership Training Institute (WLTI) as New York State SkillsUSA Officers. Angelina holds the position of Treasurer and Kayla holds the position of Officer at Large.
WLTI is a SkillsUSA conference that offers students and advisors from across the nation the unique opportunity to advocate for Career and Technical Education while receiving advanced leadership training. During the four-day event, students collaborated honing their leadership skills as well as visiting Washington’s famous museums and monuments. The highlight of the conference was when students conducted in-person visits with their elected officials on Capitol Hill to advocate for SkillsUSA and career and technical education. Angelina and Kayla met with Congressman Pat Ryan to discuss the importance of SkillsUSA and CTE funding.
OUB is very proud of Angelina and Kayla and what they have accomplished during their time at the conference. We look forward to seeing them implement what they have learned in the school community.
Ms. Laura Brissing, OUB SkillsUSA Advisor, also attended.
