Capital Project Progress Continues Across OUB

A group of people, including children and adults, use oversized scissors to cut a blue and orange ribbon in front of a modern building.

Construction and renovations continue across the OUB Capital Project, which is now roughly at the halfway point. With work progressing at multiple locations, students and staff are enjoying new and renovated spaces, including the recently opened Arden Hill Gymnasium and continued improvements at the Axelrod Education Center.

Arden Hill Gymnasium Opens Its Doors

A ribbon cutting on Sept. 4 marked the opening of the new Arden Hill Gymnasium, an important achievement for the OUB Capital Project. For the first time, Arden Hill students have access to a true gymnasium designed to support physical activity, recreation and a wide range of student activities. The gym has quickly become an active hub, giving students opportunities to play, exercise and participate in a variety of activities.

Work on the surrounding facilities is also moving forward:

  • The outdoor basketball court is scheduled to be poured in mid-September.
  • Decking has been completed.
  • Work is underway on the fitness classroom.
  • A new multipurpose field is coming soon.

Axelrod Education Center Welcomes Students

The Axelrod Education Center reached another important point in the project as students and staff returned for the first day of school on Sept. 2 and entered Axelrod through the new single point of entry security entrance. The new entrance provides a sheltered, accessible entry designed to create a welcoming arrival while supporting safety, accessibility and dignity for everyone.

Inside, the cafetorium has been renovated, and updates continue throughout the third floor, including univent, flooring and ceiling work. Hallway painting on the second floor has been completed, with third-floor painting scheduled to follow.

Looking ahead, a window and interior door package will go out to bid later this fall, with installation planned over the summer. Construction at Axelrod will continue in phases through the end of 2027.
