OUB's National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) is conducting a campus-wide shoe drive, collecting new and gently used shoes. NTHS will earn funds based on the total weight of all the shoes collected. The fundraiser will benefit NTHS as well as the SkillsUSA, Best Buddies, and Future Educators of America clubs at CTEC.

OUB students and staff can donate shoes at the Gibson Road or Arden Hill CTE campuses now through March 27.

The donated shoes will be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise and small business partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in creating, maintaining and growing small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity is limited. Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house their families. By donating, the shoes get a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives around the world.

“We are super excited to announce our fundraiser because you don’t have to buy anything," said NTHS Social Media Officer Katelyn Holmsen. “All we ask for is people to clean out their closets and find some gently used or unused shoes that aren’t wanted anymore.”

A national non-profit student organization, the NTHS has been recognizing outstanding student achievement in CTE since 1984. Having served over 1.2 million members in secondary and postsecondary chapters across the country, NTHS supports the next generation of skilled workers through chapter activities built around its Core Four Objectives of career development, leadership development, service and recognition. The OUB chapter inducts approximately 5 percent of its CTE students each year.
