Instructional Support Services ESOL Class

Orange-Ulster BOCES’ Division of Instructional Support Services and Manhattanville College are pleased to collaborate and provide advanced training programs for educators, teachers and administrators, interested in English as a new language and bilingual education.  During 2023 Orange-Ulster BOCES will host a NYSED Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL/ESOL) Certification Cohort and a Bilingual Extension Certification Cohort.  The cohorts are open to all public and private school educators who hold a NYSED certification.  These training programs are great ways to add additional certification, extend knowledge of educational research/methods/materials, and earn further graduate credits in a comprehensive program.  This is the ninth year the collaboration has supported this advanced training.

Educators who have completed the program have become ESOL teachers, principals, coordinators of ESOL/bilingual education, staff developers, and more.  One educator who completed the program stated, “I had been a teacher for 15 years when I entered the program.  I was a veteran teacher.  What I loved about the program is that it is designed for working educators.  All of the ESOL research and strategies we explored in the program helped my interactions with students evolve. It supported me to integrate new pedagogies and advance my ability to help students learn English well.”

Another educator, a tenured assistant principal who completed the program shared, “Through participating in the program, I was able to fully understand the laws about English as a new language and also develop the skills for looking for ESOL best practices in the classrooms I supervise.”

If you are interested in joining the cohort please review the flier and complete the application form.  Please contact Dr. Diane Lang if you need further information at diane.lang@ouboces.org.
