As districts across New York prepare for the implementation of Portrait of a Graduate, the Orange-Ulster BOCES Division of Instructional Support Services is proud to offer a comprehensive catalog of professional learning opportunities.
The OUB course offerings are specifically curated to support regional educators, providing practical strategies, pedagogical insights, and collaborative experiences that help integrate Portrait of a Graduate into daily instruction and school culture.
In addition, support for the implementation of NYSED mandates related to Personal Finance Education and Climate Change Education will begin in Summer 2026. These learning opportunities will help clarify instructional expectations, identify connections to existing standards and coursework, and introduce approaches for integration into teaching and learning.
While additional statewide guidance is forthcoming, there is meaningful work that can and should begin now to build shared understanding, strengthen coherence, and establish a strong foundation for future implementation.
The NYS Portrait of a Graduate is a framework adopted in July 2025 that defines the skills and attributes students should possess upon graduation. The goal is to ensure every student graduates not only academically prepared for college and career, but also equipped with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to thrive in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. The framework highlights key competencies such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, citizenship, and character, which together represent the broad range of abilities students need to succeed in learning, work, and civic life.
