Orange-Ulster BOCES Adult Education Division has aligned the primary workforce training programs with either licensure or national certifications. These training programs include workplace skills and job placement assistance. Personal enrichment and recreational programs are also offered as a community service. Fall, winter, spring and summer sessions offer year-round training.

Admission:
Admission requirements vary for each program.
Minimum academic requirements must be met for all Career Development Center programs. Optional informational schedules are available in the Adult Education Catalog.
Registration:
The Continuing Education Fall semester begins in September, Winter in January and Spring in April. To register or obtain orientation information call (845)781-6715 x2 or go online to ouboces.org. Click the Register Online link for Continuing Education classes.
Tuition:
Varies with length and type of course. Purchase of books, materials and protective equipment may be necessary in some programs. Tuition and materials charges are paid by the enrollee at the time of registration.

Some individual programs have been approved for the training of veterans.
Certificate Program
All Career Development Center programs are aligned with national accrediting agencies or NYS licensure that require successful exam results for completion.
High School Equivalency (HSE) Preparation Co-Ser #900.000

A program of study that is designed to enable the student to pass the New York State High School Equivalency Diploma Exam given periodically by the State Education Department throughout the state. Emphasis is on developing reading comprehension in literature, the sciences and social studies, as well as the strengthening of skills in mathematics and English language usage. Additional emphasis is placed on workplace skills and career readiness.
Students are tested at admission to determine areas of strength and weakness. When, in the judgment of both student and school personnel, the student is ready to take the equivalency examination, the student is assisted in arranging for the exam an appointment at a testing center convenient to the student.
A case manager is available to consult with students both prior to admission and throughout the course.

Persons must be over 21 years of age and not enrolled in a regular public or private school. Those seeking admission should call or write to the BOCES Office of Continuing Education.
Cost Formula:
The program is free to enrollees. It is financed primarily by the State Education Department through Employment Preparation Education funding.

A program of study designed for those whose academic achievement is below the 8.9 grade level. English language usage, reading and mathematics are emphasized.

English as a Second Language Co-Ser #900.020

English as a Second Language is a program that serves those adults whose native language is other than English. Special techniques and materials are used to develop competencies in the use of English. Learning sites are located in those areas of the county that are close to the concentration of persons in need of this type of instruction. Emphasis is placed on Civics education and parental support of their child’s education.

The Orange-Ulster BOCES operates a program for out-of-school youth between the ages of 16 and 24. The program provides the following:
- High School Equivalency Preparation classes and testing are provided throughout the year. Individualized tutoring as well as group instruction are offered to students who qualify.
- Workforce readiness education and training are woven into coursework in order to prepare students for transition into college, careers, apprenticeships, and vocational training.
- Job Shadowing and Internships are provided locally to students in varying different career sectors. Students are given paid work experience through partnerships with local businesses and agencies.
Admission:
The program is available to out of school youth who are between 16 and 24 years old and who meet WIOA Title 1 requirements.
Cost Formula:
There is no charge for the program to enrollees. The program is financed through WIOA Title 1 grant funds.
Orange County Correctional Facility Educational Program Co-Ser #416.000

The Orange-Ulster BOCES operates a program for youth incarcerated at the Orange County Jail. The program provides the following:
- High School Equivalency Preparation classes and testing are provided at appropriate intervals throughout the year. Individualized as well as group instruction is offered.
Admission:
Programs are available to incarcerated youth who are under 21 years of age. All students who do not have a High School Diploma or a High School Equivalency Diploma are mandated to attend programs.
Cost Formula:
The program is funded with State Aid.
