Love the Sport? Get Paid to Ref!

Become a game official and help keep games safe, fair, and competitive. Whether you’re a lifelong sports fan or looking for a flexible way to earn extra income, officiating is a great way to stay involved in the sports you love while supporting student athletes.

Officials are needed throughout Orange, Sullivan, Dutchess and Ulster counties for varsity, junior varsity, and modified games. With flexible assignments, you can choose opportunities that fit your schedule.

Basic Qualifications

To become a sports official, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Pass a fingerprint-based background check
  • Complete the required training and certification for your sport

Officials are generally expected to arrive 30–60 minutes before the scheduled start of a game to allow time for check-in, preparation, and any pre-game responsibilities. Your assignment ends when the game is completed.
