METHODS OF PAYMENT:
Applicants must secure financial aid or pay in full by the date indicated on the acceptance letter. Payments must be made by bank check, money order or credit card. No cash or personal checks are accepted. Orange-Ulster BOCES does not offer a payment plan.
FINANCIAL AID:
Eligible applicants may apply for Federal Student Aid, 1199 Service Employees International Union (SEIU), CSEA, ACCES-VR or the U.S. Veteran Affairs for tuition assistance.
Eligibility Requirements for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA for Federal PELL Grant & Loans):
- Have a high school transcript or state-approved high school equivalency credential or an evaluated foreign diploma stating secondary education is equivalent to U.S. high school education
- Must be U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
- Enrolled in the Practical Nurse program
- Registered with Selective Services (males students only)
- Have no defaulted federal student loans
- Only undergraduates are eligible for Pell Grants

Refund Policies
**Refund Policy for Students who Withdraw on or Before the First Day of Class:
If fees are collected in advance of the start date of class and the student decides to drop this program before the first day of class, Orange-Ulster BOCES will return what has been paid minus the non-refundable deposit and application fee. A student’s early withdrawal must be submitted in writing to the Practical Nurse Program office no later than the first day of class.
Tuition refunds, when due, will be made upon written request from the student. Administrative fees are not refundable.
The Federal Student Aid Title IV Refund Policy and Procedures will be followed as mandated by Federal Law. Contact the Practical Nurse Program Office at 845-781-6715 x10800 for further details of the refund policy of Federal Student Aid and R2T4 calculation.
Refund Policy:
A student who withdraws or is dismissed at any time during or after the first scheduled class meeting shall be entitled to a refund as provided below:
- Within the first week of the program, full refund of all tuition paid, less the non-refundable application fee and deposit.
- During the second week of the program, 70% refund of tuition, less the non-refundable application fee and deposit
- After the second week of the program, no refund will be made; student is responsible for any and all remaining tuition and fees
Refunds for Class Cancellation by Orange-Ulster BOCES
If tuition and fees are collected in advance of the start date of the Practical Nurse Program, and Orange-Ulster BOCES cancels the class, 100% of the tuition and fees collected in advance will be refunded. The refund shall be made within 45 days of the planned start date.
FEDERAL PELL GRANT AND FEDERAL DIRECT STUDENT LOANS
1. Gather Documents to Complete FAFSA:
You will need the following documents to complete your financial aid application:
- Your Social Security Number
- Your Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
- Your federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned. (Note: You may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.)
- Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
- Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
2. Create a FSA ID:
Go to https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/account-info to create FSA ID and password. Retain this information for future reference.
3. Complete a Financial Aid Application:
Go to https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa or download myStudentAid Mobile App, available for iOS & Android devices.
- First-time applying, click on “Start Here”
- Returning applicants with FSA ID, click on “Log in”
- Read and follow instructions carefully
- Enter school code 014888 for Orange-Ulster BOCES
- Must enter income tax information/ you may use the “IRS Data Retrieval Tool” to transfer tax return data from IRS.GOV website*
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Parents will have to create their own FSA ID and password to enter their income information and sign their student’s application.
- Parents are also required to enter their tax information if the student is considered as a dependent applicant.
- Proof of parent’s or student’s spouse’s income may be required for verification.
- One of the parents must sign the FAFSA application for it to be processed.

4. Follow the Filing Deadlines for Finalizing Financial Aid:
Make sure to complete this process by the deadline date otherwise your PN application will be placed on a waiting list.
5. Verification:
If you are selected for verification, please complete the verification worksheet included with your financial aid award letter and submit a copy of your tax return transcript. To obtain a free copy of your IRS Tax Return Transcript, go to https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript or call 800-908-9946.
6. Entrance Counseling Session:
Be prepared to complete an online entrance counseling session with your FSA ID and password for Federal Direct Student Loans. This will include signing a Master Promissory Note if you wish to borrow federal loans to help pay your tuition.

How the IRS Data Retrieval Tool Works:
- Enter your FSA ID and Password and clinical link to IRS
- Your FAFSA will be saved, and you will be transferred to the IRS Web site
- On the IRS Web site, enter the requested information. Make sure you enter info EXACTLY as it would be on your tax return (example: if you filed as 2nd street don’t enter in Second Street).
- Once the IRS has validated your identification, your IRS tax information will display. You can either transfer your information from the IRS or choose to return to FAFSA on the Wed from the IRS Web site. If you do not transfer your information or choose not to return from the IRS Web site, you will have to login to open your saved FAFSA.
- If you transfer your IRS tax information, questions that are populated with tax information will be marked with “Transferred from the IRS.”
How Financial Aid is Calculated:
The total cost of attendance for Orange-Ulster BOCES minus student’s Expected Family Contribution determines the financial need for FSA.
